On November 13, 2018, the Broward County Board of County Commissioners (“Board”) discussed and unanimously supported moving forward with naming the West Wing of the Seventeenth Judicial Circuit Court of Florida after the late former State Senator, Mayor of Coral Springs, Florida, and prominent attorney, “Skip” Campbell.
Section 18.43 of the Broward County Administrative Code (“Administrative Code”) requires Board approval for naming of Broward County-owned Property, Buildings, Structures, and Facilities and requires a minimum 90-day waiting period after a potential honoree has passed before the naming may occur. A minimum of 90 days has passed since Mayor Skip Campbell’s death on October 23, 2018.
The Administrative Code also requires solicitation of at least three local Cities, Homeowners Associations, or other appropriate community groups for input. Following the November 13, 2018, Commission meeting, Mayor Bogen’s staff sent formal requests to multiple cities requesting Letters of Support. The responses can be found in Exhibit 2. |
