THE LIBRARIES DIVISION RECOMMENDS THE RETROACTIVE APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTIONS.
Approval of this item will support the Board's Value to cultivate community culture, arts, recreation and life-long learning and the Goal to provide diverse artistic, cultural, educational, and historical amenities and programs that contribute to a vibrant, multi-cultural and economically-viable community.
The State of Florida, Department of State has awarded a Library Services and Technology Act Grant (18-LSTA-D-04) to Broward County in the amount of $2,875.11 to fund the "Innovation Grant" project. The project will support the purchase of tangible items that will support innovation in libraries.
This may include, but not be limited to, the areas of science, technology, reading, engineering, arts and mathematics programs. The library will purchase robotics and engineering kits that will be utilized in the new MERC (Math, Engineering, Robotics, Coding) Lab at the Weston Branch Library. The MERC Lab will provide customers of all ages a free space to explore and learn about robotics and engineering.
This agreement began on December 19, 2018 and ends on September 30, 2019. The Libraries Division received the final agreement from the State on February 8, 2019.
The County's Risk Management Division has reviewed and approved the agreement as to insurance requirements. The County Attorney’s Office has approved this agreement as to form and requested that the Division disclose that the venue for any litigation is in Leon County. The grant agreement is in the State's form.
