PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT/HIGHWAY AND BRIDGE MAINTENANCE DIVISION RECOMMENDS APPROVAL.
On April 10, 2018 (Item No. 37), the Board of County Commissioners awarded a contract to Kiewit Infrastructure South Co. to construct the Andrews Avenue Drawbridge Rehabilitation Project. In addition to the base scope of work, the approved contract included three optional enhancement items, requested by the City of Fort Lauderdale. These optional items were included in the contract pending funding commitment from the City.
The City has decided to proceed with two of the enhancement items and this agreement formalizes the City’s funding participation for these two items. Optional Item A would construct concrete wheel paths on the bridge’s movable spans for noise mitigation. Under the proposed Agreement, Broward County will fund 60% of the $147,700 cost, or $88,620, and the City will fund the remaining 40%, or $59,080. The 60/40 cost sharing is the same arrangement previously approved by the Board of County Commissioners for noise mitigation at the SW 4th/SW 7th Avenue Bridge on August 21, 2012 (Item No. 5). Optional Item B would construct luminaries on the underside of the Andrews Avenue Bridge deck. The City shall fund the full cost of Optional Item B estimated at $25,300. Additionally, for Optional Item B, the City shall be responsible for maintenance and repairs of the underdeck luminaires upon completion of the project. The City of Fort Lauderdale shall reimburse Broward County for their share of the costs.
The agreement has been reviewed and approved as to form by the County Attorney’s Office and the Risk Management Division.
