PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT/HIGHWAY CONSTRUCTION AND ENGINEERING DIVISION RECOMMENDS APPROVAL.
This item supports the Board of County Commissioners' Value of “cooperatively delivering an efficient and accessible regional intermodal transportation network” with the Goal of supporting “the development, design and construction of sustainable, multi-modal transportation facilities throughout the County, to meet the demands of residents, travelers, and businesses.”
Andrews Avenue between Oakland Park Boulevard and Prospect Road is a County road located in the City of Oakland Park. The City of Oakland Park applied for and received a grant from the Broward County Metropolitan Planning Organization to improve this section of Andrews Avenue. The improvements include milling and resurfacing, bike lanes, median construction, landscaping and irrigation. There is no change to the number of vehicular travel lanes. As part of the project, the City desires to install green-colored pavement markings for bicycle lane designation continuously throughout the entire length of this segment of Prospect Road. Broward County's current standards allow for limited regularly-spaced segments of green-colored pavement markings as bicycle lane designations. The agreement will allow the City to install the continuous bicycle lane designation within County right-of-way and will obligate the City to maintain the improvement. The agreement also allows the County to terminate the agreement with or without cause at any time. If the agreement is terminated, the City must remove the improvement at its expense and restore the area to its original condition.
The agreement has been reviewed and approved as to form by the County Attorney's Office and the Risk Management Division.
