On March 23, 2018, Governor Rick Scott approved an act, codified in Chapter 2018-161, Laws of Florida (the "Act"), to provide for the honorary designations of certain transportation facilities (e.g., public roads and highways) in specified counties, including Broward County. Included within the Act is the designation of the Roadway (located in Broward County) as "Trooper Stephen G. Rouse Memorial Highway" in honor of a Florida Highway Patrol Trooper killed in the line of duty. This designation requires the Florida Department of Transportation to erect two suitable markers at the specified locations. Before the markers honoring Trooper Rouse may be erected, however, Section 334.071(3), Florida Statutes, requires that the Broward County Board of County Commissioners pass a resolution in support of the designation (Exhibit 1). This item approves the Resolution in support of the Roadway designation.
