On September 27, 2012, Agenda Item No. 61, the Board approved the return of the Office of Communications Technology (inclusive of staff and related equipment and infrastructure) from the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
In preparation for the transition of the Office of Communications Technology (now known as the Office of Regional Communications and Technology or ORCAT), County staff met with a variety of stakeholders, including the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, to discuss the transition of regional communications to the County. A significant requirement was for the County to have Management Control Agreements (MCAs) with municipalities whose law enforcement agencies access the Regional Public Communication System.
On October 9, 2012, Agenda Item No. 41, the Board approved the execution of Management Control Agreements with Sunrise and Hollywood. As it stands today, the County has executed Management Control Agreements with Sunrise, Hollywood, Margate, Hallandale Beach, Pembroke Pines, Coconut Creek, and BSO. Cities such as Lauderhill, as a result of a recent Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) audit from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, have requested to enter into a Management Control Agreement with Broward County. This action will allow the County Administrator to enter into Management Control Agreements with those remaining municipalities who currently do not have MCAs with Broward County.
Any such agreements that are entered into by the County Administrator will be presented to the Board for ratification.
