Summary Explanation/Background
PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT/HIGHWAY CONSTRUCTION AND ENGINEERING DIVISION RECOMMENDS APPROVAL
Broward Boulevard is a County road located in the City of Fort Lauderdale. The City applied for a permit and constructed a pilot project that installed a mountable curb to slow traffic around the turning radius at the southwest corner of Broward Boulevard and SE 15th Avenue. The project was completed in September 2017. At that time, the County agreed to review the safety and effectiveness of this pilot project and consider allowing it to remain in place through a revocable license agreement.
The agreement obligates the City to maintain the mountable curb and allows the County to terminate the agreement with or without cause at any time. If the agreement is terminated, the City must remove the mountable curb. The City executed the agreement on November 21, 2017 and subsequently, provided all required documents to the County in January 2018. Since then, the County has continued to review the effectiveness of the mountable curb. It has been determined that the mountable curb slows traffic around the turning radius and contributes to the safety within the intersection. County and City agreed to continue monitoring its effectiveness and any related issues that may arise from this improvement. The County has agreed to allow the mountable curb to remain and this agreement is now ready for the Board of County Commissioners’ consideration.
The agreement has been reviewed and approved as to form by the Office of the County Attorney and the Risk Management Division.
