THE LIBRARIES DIVISION RECOMMENDS THE APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTIONS.
Pursuant to the Administrative Code, the Libraries Division requests that the Board formally accept three generous donations for the Broward County Libraries Division. Motion A, from Irving Hochberg, through the Friends of the Broward County Library, Inc., Motion B, from Brainfuse, Inc., and Motion C, from the Friends of the South Regional/Broward College Library, Inc., are each valued at more than $500. Motions A, B, and C support the Board's vision to create a community culture with vibrant arts, recreation and learning opportunities.
Mr. Irving Hochberg, a long time library friend and donor, left $2,000 to the Friends of the Broward County Library in his trust to be used over a period of two years for the purchase and distribution of books and materials that promote outside art, native art, art therapy, and art by or for persons with different abilities. The Board formally accepted the initial $1,000 donation on September 15, 2016, Agenda Item No. 65.
Brainfuse, Inc., an electronic resources provider donated $1,000 to ensure that the Library has the resources to assist our community in the aftermath of Hurricane Irma.
The Friends of the South Regional-Broward College Library, Inc. are donating two UXL Power Bar charging tables for public use at the South Regional-Broward College Library. The Friends' generosity results in a cost avoidance for Broward County in the amount of $1,832. Library Friends groups support the Libraries Division through sponsorship of special projects, local branch programming, library staff development, advocacy for library issues and encourage volunteerism.
