Summary Explanation/Background
PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT/HIGHWAY AND BRIDGE MAINTENANCE DIVISION RECOMMENDS APPROVAL.
Broward County Highway and Bridge Maintenance Division works in close coordination with the Florida Department of Health in all of Broward County’s mosquito control activities. The Florida Department of Health has made funding available to Florida counties to supplement the cost of local mosquito control efforts in response to the threat of the Zika virus. County staff submitted a request for funds to supplement the cost of chemicals for mosquito control activities. The Florida Department of Health recently notified the County that they have agreed to provide Broward County with funding in the amount of $500,000 which must be expended by September 30, 2017. Approval of the budget Resolution will allow County staff to utilize the funding for mosquito control efforts prior to September 30, 2017.
