During the May 9, 2017, Board Meeting, the Board voted to sign and transmit a letter urging President Donald J. Trump and the United States Department of Homeland Security to extend Haiti's Temporary Protected Status (TPS). The letter also urged Secretary of Homeland Security John F. Kelly to extend Temporary Protected Status for Haitian nationals for at least another 18-month period. On May 22, 2017, Haiti's TPS status was extended for a six-month period.
The proposed Resolution urges President Donald Trump to honor his campaign pledges to the Haitian American Community by extending Haiti's Temporary Protected by status designation for 18 months beyond January 22, 2018.
