A. MOTION TO ADOPT budget Resolution No. 2017-335 within the Law Enforcement Trust Fund (LETF) for the Broward Sheriff's Office in the amount of $50,000 for the purpose of providing funds to Junior Achievement of South Florida Inc.

MOTION TO ADOPT budget Resolution No. 2017-336 within the Law Enforcement Trust Fund (LETF) for the Broward Sheriff's Office in the amount of $149,888 for the purpose of providing funds for various organizations' crime prevention, safe neighborhood, and drug abuse education and prevention programs.

C. MOTION TO ADOPT budget Resolution No. 2017-337 within the Law Enforcement Trust Fund (LETF) for the Broward Sheriff's Office in the amount of $100,000 for the purpose of providing funds for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Broward County.

D. MOTION TO ADOPT budget Resolution No. 2017-338 within the Law Enforcement Trust Fund (LETF) for the Broward Sheriff's Office in the amount of $15,000 for the purpose of providing funds for CIT International Inc.

Why Action is Necessary
Florida Statutes 932.7025(4) requires that proceeds from the disposition of liens and forfeited property obtained from criminal procedure and corrections be deposited in a special law enforcement trust fund to be used for law enforcement purposes. Recommendation of the Sheriff and Board approval are necessary to appropriate LETF funds.
What Action Accomplishes
A. Provides LETF funding in the amount of $50,000 to support Junior Achievement of South Florida Inc.
B. Provides LETF funding in the amount of $149,888 for various organizations' crime prevention, safe neighborhood, and drug abuse education and prevention programs.
C. Provides LETF funding in the amount of $100,000 to support the Boys and Girls Clubs of Broward County.
D. Provides LETF funding in the amount of $15,000 to support CIT International Inc.

Summary Explanation/Background
A. The Broward Sheriff's Office supports this LETF request for the Junior Achievement of South Florida Inc. (JASF). The JA BizTown for Broward County Public Schools is a bustling simulation that all fifth graders in Broward County attend each year, along with private, charter, and home school students. After sixteen hours of classroom curriculum, the program culminates in a hands-on simulation at JA World's JA BizTown, where students apply their learned concepts in a life-like business environment. The Broward Sheriff's Office storefront within JA BizTown focuses on educating students about the Sheriff's Priority Areas; JA staff work with BSO to customize this curriculum to achieve the specific outreach and educational goals of BSO.

B. The Broward Sheriff's Office supports this LETF request to provide funding for the various organizations' programs listed in the table below. These programs include local area crime prevention, safe neighborhood, and drug abuse education and prevention initiatives.

C. The Broward Sheriff's Office supports this LETF request for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County Transportation System. The funding will provide afterschool transportation for low-income children from Title I schools in Broward County to their local Boys & Girls Club. Funds will ensure children, who may not have anywhere to go after school, have a safe passage to a Club where they are fed a healthy snack and a hot supper, assisted with homework, and participate in developmentally appropriate recreational activities.

D. The Broward Sheriff's Office supports this LETF request for CIT International, Inc. This conference brings in over 1,100 law enforcement officers and deputies as well as mental health professionals and advocates. It will bring cutting age training and information specific to Broward County Sheriff's Deputies and Municipal Police Officers that will help in their duties when responding to calls involving people with mental illness and other disabilities as well as building and maintaining local partnerships with the mental health systems, consumers, families, and improving crisis de-escalation techniques. This conference is a catalyst for Broward County to further grow and sustain its CIT program as a community program sharing their new knowledge and skills for a strong CIT program.

Fiscal Impact/Cost Summary:
Funds are available within the Law Enforcement Trust Fund for these actions. According to BSO, the current balance of the LETF, as of May 19, 2017 is $4,659,789 in the local account ($3,593,802 of which is unrestricted) and $3,347,482 in the federal account ($3,043,419 of which is unrestricted). This action will utilize $314,888 in local unrestricted funds.
