Requested Action
MOTION TO APPROVE Easement granting Florida Power and Light Company (FPL) a non-exclusive utility easement on a portion  of County-owned property located at 325 SW 28th Street in Fort Lauderdale, on the site of the new Broward Addiction Recovery Center at no cost to the County; and authorize the Mayor and Clerk to execute the easement and authorize  recordation of same. (Commission District 7)

Why Action is Necessary
Board of County Commissioners' approval is required to grant an interest in real property pursuant to Broward County Administrative Code, Section 6.23.
What Action Accomplishes
Provides FPL with a non-exclusive utility easement for the construction, operation and maintenance of underground electrical facilities at the site of the future Broward Addiction Recovery Center, currently under construction.

Summary Explanation/Background
THE PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT/FACILITIES MANAGEMENT DIVISION/REAL PROPERTY SECTION AND CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT DIVISION RECOMMEND APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTION.

The new future Broward Addiction Recovery Center (BARC), is currently under construction at 325 SW 28th Street in Fort Lauderdale, identified by Folio Numbers 5042-22-21-0010, 5042-22-03-0360, 5042-22-03-0370, 5042-22-03-0371, 5042-22-03-0372, 5042-22-03-0373, 5042-22-03-0380 5042-22-03-0390, 5042-22-03-0400, and 5042-22-03-0410. Upon completion of construction, the new BARC facility will provide fifty beds and enhanced patient privacy in a spacious modern medical setting, conducive to rehabilitation and recovery. Electricity is required at the site for construction and eventual occupation of the building. It is normal and customary to grant utility easements for new construction. The FPL easement is an FPL form document used state-wide and modified to serve Broward County.

All documents have been reviewed and approved as to form by the Office of the County Attorney.
