Summary Explanation/ Background
THE ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AND GROWTH MANAGEMENT DEPARTMENT AND THE EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT DIVISION RECOMMEND APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTION.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security, through the Florida Division of Emergency Management, has sub-granted the Fiscal Year 2010 UASI Grant Program to the City of Miami, to provide funds to address the equipment, training, planning, exercise and operational needs for urban areas, and assist in building an enhanced and sustainable capacity to prevent, respond to, and recover from natural disasters or acts of terrorism.

This year, in an effort to quickly expend "de-obligated" regional funds, the City of Miami proposed the purchase of emergency equipment that may be deployed during disaster events impacting the South Florida Region. Distribution of the equipment will be made to eight recipient-agencies in accordance with a vote by the Miami Urban Area Working Group. Broward County will receive two diesel generators with tandem trailers as stipulated in the Memorandum of Agreement, Attachment A – Regional Distribution of Equipment List, as reflected in Exhibit 1.
