On December 10, 1996 (Item No. 5), the Board of County Commissioners granted an avigation easement to the City of Fort Lauderdale for a portion of the airspace above Broward County's Main Library. The City needed the easement for air navigation as helicopters land and take-off from the John Fuhrer Downtown Helistop located atop the City's Central Business Parking Garage at 100 SE 1st Street. The avigation easement commenced on December 10, 1996 and provided for an initial term of 20 years plus three ten-year renewal terms. The City wishes to exercise its first renewal option for an additional ten years effective December 10, 2016.
