Summary Explanation/ Background
THE FINANCE AND ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES DEPARTMENT, THE ACCOUNTING DIVISION AND THE TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT RECOMMEND APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTION.
 
In accordance with the procedures outlined in Volume 1 of the Administrative Code Chapter 3, Part II, Section 3.10 - Travel, attached is a request for the Director of the Transportation Department, Chris Walton, to attend the American Public Transportation Association's International Practicum on Innovative Transit Funding & Financing June 12-13, 2014, and Rail Conference June 15-18, 2014; and for Patrick Brouard, Broward County Transit Rail Manager, to attend the American Public Transportation Association's Rail Conference June 15-18, 2014, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

The Conference on Transit Funding and Financing is an in-depth, hands-on and interactive workshop which will explore new and nontraditional funding and financing tools for public transportation agencies, including capturing the value of transit, revenue strategies, and partnering with the public, as well as nonprofit and private sector "beneficiary pays" models. The Rail Conference will feature workshops and technical sessions covering timely issues of widespread interest in operations, technology, safety, security, planning, finance, capital projects and the technical aspects of providing all modes of rail service: urban, commuter, high-speed and intercity.
