Requested Action

MOTION TO DISCUSS Broward County Historical Commission and the Board support or opposition to the creation of a Certified Local Government (CLG). (Commissioner LaMarca)

ACTION:  (T-11:58 AM)  Following discussion, the Board provided direction to staff to create a Certified Local Government (CLG).  The new entity will be the Broward County Historical Preservation Board.  The new Board will consist of nine members with one appointment made per Broward County Commissioner. (Refer to minutes for full discussion.) 

VOTE: 8-0.  Commissioner Jacobs was not present.

Why Action is Necessary
Permits a public discussion relating to the organizational structure of Broward County Historical Commission and Certified Local Governments. Specifically addressing the following items:

1) The pursuit of Certified Local Government status
2) The structure of the membership
3) The reporting structure
4) The appointment process

This action will allow for discussion and action by the Board.

Summary Explanation/ Background
The Historical Commission recommends the Florida Certified Local Government (CLG) status be pursued for Broward County. CLG status would require an update of the current Broward County preservation ordinances as well as well as a restructuring of the Historical Commission Board itself.
