In accordance with the Code of Ordinances of Broward County, Florida, Section 1-51.3(E)(2), settlements exceeding the amount of $15,000 require prior Board approval.

Summary Explanation/ Background
THE FINANCE AND ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES DEPARTMENT AND THE RISK MANAGEMENT DIVISION RECOMMEND APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTION.

On March 7, 2001, the Claimant, a Secretary I, sustained an injury while in the course and scope of employment with the Broward County Housing Finance and Community Development Division. The Claimant was treated for this injury which has been accepted as compensable. The Claimant is no longer employed with Broward County as of August 19, 2005.

Through negotiations with the Claimant, a settlement was reached in the total amount of $249,900. This amount is broken down as follows: (1) the Claimant will receive $164,828, plus $500 for a Release and Resignation Agreement; and (2) the Claimant’s attorney will receive $77,147 for fees and $7,425 for costs. The settlement includes a settlement of all future indemnity and medical benefits.

Please note the Concurrence Memorandum was signed by the Office of the County Attorney on April 15, 2014, which is within the 90-day period requested by the Board.
