THE PORT EVERGLADES DEPARTMENT RECOMMENDS APPROVAL
The Florida East Coast Railway (FEC) is currently constructing the Intermodal Container Transfer Facility in the Southport area of Port Everglades as provided for in the Port Everglades Intermodal Container Transfer Facility Lease and Operating Agreement between Broward County and the Florida East Coast Railway, L.L.C., approved by the Board on March 20, 2012 (PH-Item No. 21). Article 5.1 of that Agreement provides that the parties will coordinate the infrastructure for the project with the existing conditions at the Port, such as drainage and electrical.
Electric service for the ICTF will be provided from an existing Florida Power & Light (FP&L) power vault in Southport. Since the vault is outside the FEC ICTF leasehold, FP&L has requested that the County grant a non-exclusive utility easement for a ten-foot wide strip of land between the power vault and the electric utility connection on the ICTF. The Non-Exclusive Utility Easement (Exhibit 1) provides the requested easement in an area at the south end of the ICTF (see Exhibit 2). The easement has been approved as to form by the Office of the County Attorney. |
