Summary Explanation/ Background
THE ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AND GROWTH MANAGEMENT DEPARTMENT AND NATURAL RESOURCES PLANNING AND MANAGEMENT DIVISION RECOMMEND APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTION.

This item supports the Commission’s Vision of “A Pristine, Healthy Environment,” Goal 1: “To protect and enhance the environment with collaborative partners,” and Goal 2: “To encourage and promote the conservation and wise use of our natural resources” through wetland rehydration projects.

The Broward County-wide Integrated Water Resource Plan Report was completed in November 2009 and included the goal to provide water deliveries to urban natural areas to provide storage for aquifer recharge and improve habitat function by 2019. We are now to the point when the rehydration projects will be moving forward. County Parks paid the first consultant invoice to ensure timely payment. A Memorandum of Understanding is being created to address the further distribution of funds as the eight wetland projects advance.
