In accordance with the Code of Ordinances of Broward County, Florida, Section 1-51.3(E)(2), settlements exceeding the amount of $15,000 require prior Board approval.

Summary Explanation/ Background
THE FINANCE AND ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES DEPARTMENT AND THE RISK MANAGEMENT DIVISION RECOMMEND APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTION.

On January 29, 2004, the Claimant, a Document Services Worker II, sustained an injury while in the course and scope of employment with the Broward County Records Division. The Claimant was treated for this injury, which has been accepted as compensable. The Claimant is no longer employed with Broward County as of November 20, 2004.

Through negotiations conducted with the Claimant, a settlement was reached in the total amount of $25,000. Of this amount, counsel for the Claimant will receive $4,275 for attorney's fees and $725 for costs. This settlement proposal includes a settlement of all future indemnity and medical benefits. The Claimant will net $19,500 plus $500 for a Release and Resignation Agreement.

Please note the Concurrence Memorandum was signed by the Office of the County Attorney on April 2, 2014, which is within the 90-day period requested by the Board.
