In 2012, the Board of County Commissioners ("Board"), through the Office of Intergovernmental Affairs and Professional Standards ("OIAPS") staff, conducted a review of the County's advisory boards pursuant to the Sunset Ordinance, Section 1-244, et seq., of the Code of Ordinances ("Sunset Review"). During the Sunset Review, there were recommendations made to the Board that certain advisory boards should be "retained with changes." In June 2013, when the Sunset Review recommendations were presented to the Board by OIAPS staff, the Board directed the Office of the County Attorney to prepare legislation for all advisory boards which were "retained with changes." However, once the Office of the County Attorney evaluated the Sunset Review recommendations, it was determined that many of the recommended changes required additional information and analysis to conform to the Board's directives. With the assistance of OIAPS staff and the relevant advisory boards, the Office of the County Attorney has prepared proposed legislation to accomplish the Board's directives.
The Sunset Review recommended a continuation of the Diversity Advisory Council ("DAC") with a reduction, however, in membership from 18 members to nine. During a meeting of the DAC held on April 9, 2013, the DAC unanimously agreed to the proposed reduction in membership. |
