Summary Explanation/ Background
THE PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT/FACILITIES MANAGEMENT DIVISION/REAL PROPERTY SECTION AND CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT DIVISION RECOMMEND APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTION.

The new Courthouse parking garage is currently under construction at the northeast corner of South Andrews Avenue and SE 7th Street in Fort Lauderdale and is identified by folio number 5042-10-80-0010. Florida Power and Light Company (FPL) needs an easement to provide service to the garage during and after construction.  Currently the property has utility easements which FPL has been using to provide service. However, the design and construction of the new parking garage will render the power lines inaccessible, and therefore FPL requires relocation of these power lines to the areas depicted on the proposed easement. The proposed easement is for the construction, operation and maintenance of underground electric utility facilities.  It is normal and customary for relocation of utility lines to meet the design criteria for new construction.

Upon construction completion, the new parking garage will provide 1,000 vehicle parking spaces, 1,500 square feet of retail space, and 12,000 square feet of office space which will be occupied by the Guardian ad Litem Program.
