REVISIONS TO THE DISTRIBUTION PERCENTAGES FOR TEN CENTS OF LOCAL OPTION GAS TAXES:
Broward County shares ten cents of local option gas taxes with the municipalities through three interlocal agreements. The three interlocal agreements provide for the distribution of the following gas taxes:
• The "original" local option gas tax, last levied in 1988, with the Cities to receive 37.5% of the proceeds of six cents of gas tax.
• The "additional" local option gas tax, levied in January of 1994, with the Cities to receive 51.27% of three cents of gas tax.
• The "transit gas tax," levied in January of 2001, with the Cities to receive 26% of the proceeds of one cent of gas tax.
The three agreements provide for the distribution of the Cities’ share of gas taxes based on population. Motions A, B, and C request approval of amendments to the agreements to incorporate updated population data prepared and published by the Bureau of Economic and Business Research of the University of Florida in accordance with the terms of the agreements.
The agreements have been reviewed and approved as to form by the County Attorney's Office. |
