On November 13, 2018, the Broward County Board of County Commissioners (“Board”) discussed and unanimously supported moving forward with naming a wing of the Seventeenth Judicial Circuit Court of Florida after the late former Circuit Court Judge, prominent attorney, and community advocate, Judge Thomas J. ‘TJ’ Reddick, Jr.
Section 18.43 of the Broward County Administrative Code (“Administrative Code”) requires Board approval for naming of Broward County-owned Property, Buildings, Structures, and Facilities and requires a minimum 90-day waiting period after a potential honoree has passed before the naming may occur. Judge Thomas J. ‘TJ’ Reddick, Jr., passed away on July 28, 1993.
The Administrative Code also requires solicitation of at least three local Cities, Homeowners Associations, or other appropriate community groups for input. Following the November 13, 2018, commission meeting, Commissioner Holness’s staff sent requests for Letters of Support. The responses can be found in Exhibit 1. |
