Requested Action
A. MOTION TO AUTHORIZE County Administrator or authorized designee to take any necessary administrative or budgetary action for state legislative and executive lobbying services pursuant to direction from the Board. The terms of such agreements shall begin February 1, 2019 and end December 31, 2019 with an option to extend for two successive one-year terms beginning January 1, 2020.

ACTION:  (T-5:15 PM)  Approved as amended with Yellow-Sheeted Additional Material, dated January 29, 2019, submitted at the request of County Administration.

VOTE:  9-0.  Dr. Sharief telephonically voted in the affirmative.


B. MOTION TO AUTHORIZE County Administrator or authorized designee to take any necessary administrative or budgetary action to implement an amendment to an agreement to designate one firm as a lead and provide accommodations for Commissioners and staff during travel.

ACTION:  (T-5:15 PM)  Approved. 

VOTE:  9-0.  Dr. Sharief telephonically voted in the affirmative.

 
Why Action is Necessary
The Board must allow the County Administrator to execute, consistent with direction from the Board, all necessary agreements for state legislative and executive branch lobbying services.

Previous Action Taken
On September 26, 2017 (Item No. 33), the Board authorized the County Administrator to enter into agreements for state lobbying services with Adams St. Advocates/Ericks Consultants; Ronald L. Book; Anfield Consulting Group; Ballard Partners; Pittman Law Group; Southern Strategy Group; Tripp Scott; and PinPoint Results ending September 31, 2018.

On September 25, 2018 (Item No. 33), the Board authorized extension of the agreements month-to-month pending the results of the midterm elections.
Summary Explanation/Background
Exhibit 1 reflects all contracted firms previously engaged with the County and the newly proposed team makeup. There are two added specialty firms who will work on specific issues at the reflected rate.

Exhibit 2 is the most up-to-date tracking matrix of assignments to lobby firms and members of the Broward Delegation. This document will be updated throughout session and distributed to your offices weekly.

Exhibit 3 is the template form for lobby firms to use in reporting their advocacy efforts to elected officials and important staff on a weekly basis. These reports will be distributed to the Board weekly.
