THE ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AND GROWTH MANAGEMENT DEPARTMENT AND THE ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING AND PERMITTING DIVISION RECOMMEND APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTION.
This action supports the Board's value of encouraging investments in renewable energy, sustainable practices and environmental protection: Goal 1: Seek funding for, implement policies and pursue projects promoting the use of alternative energy, resource conservation, sustainable practices and environmental protection. Resource conservation and environmental protection is achieved by ensuring that the mitigation area will remain a natural forest in perpetuity.
The Environmental Protection and Growth Management Department (EPGMD) issued Tree Removal License No. TP18-1056 (Exhibit 3) on August 22, 2018. The license required the licensee to preserve and enhance 2.271 acres of the Natural Forest Community to mitigate for impacts to the remainder of the Natural Forest Community related to the development of a parking lot to serve airport tenants and car rental companies (Exhibit 1). The license required the conveyance of a conservation easement (Exhibit 2) to Broward County to ensure the preservation and maintenance of the 2.271 acres of enhanced Natural Forest Community in perpetuity. |
