THE PORT EVERGLADES DEPARTMENT RECOMMENDS APPROVAL.
This action supports the Broward County Board of County Commissioners' Value of "Ensuring economic opportunities for Broward’s diverse population and businesses" and Goal to "Increase the economic strength and impact of revenue-generating County enterprises balancing economic, environmental and community needs."
Buckeye Terminals, LLC operates a petroleum terminal at Port Everglades. Given the risk of petroleum fires at the Port and the need to use specialized equipment to fight such fires, Buckeye has offered to donate an Around-the-Pump Foam Proportioner (WATP) and Foam Wand to the Port Everglades Department for use by Broward Sheriff's Office Fire-Rescue Station 6 at the Port (see Exhibit 1). The WATP is a device that allows any fire pump to proportion foam with water for applying to a petroleum fire. Currently, the Port's two largest industrial pumpers that would be deployed for petroleum fires do not possess this capability. With the addition of the WATP, Port Everglades will increase capability to deliver petroleum firefighting foam using large industrial pumpers. The Foam Wand device fits over the top edge of a petroleum storage tank and allows for precise and localized foam distribution, allowing for the delivery of foam to small fires involving the seal of a petroleum storage tank, and assisting in the extinguishing of larger tank fires. The value of the equipment being donated is approximately $4,696. |
