The funding requested would be used to purchase a 1250 kW generator to be installed at Coral Glades High School. Coral Glades High School currently serves as a General Population Shelter when activated during emergency events. The installation of this generator would allow Coral Glades High School to be used as a Special Needs Shelter during emergency activations.
The School Board of Broward County (School Board) has been awarded a federal grant that includes funding for a generator at Coral Glades High School. Under the terms of the grant, the federal share of the generator would be $671,325 and the non-federal share would be $223,775. The School Board's Risk Management Department has requested that the County provide full funding, including a 10% contingency, for the generator before the grant is brought to the School Board for approval. If the County does not provide full funding for the generator, the School Board's Risk Management Department has indicated that it will abandon this project. It is anticipated that the County will be reimbursed for the federal share of the cost of the generator after the grant is approved by the School Board. To effectuate this transaction, there is an agreement that will have to be approved by the County and the School Board. |
