Why Action is Necessary
In accordance with the Broward County Administrative Code, Section 3.10, Board approval is required for more than five County employees from the same department to attend the same event unless the event is in the tri-county area.

Summary Explanation/Background
THE FINANCE AND ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES DEPARTMENT AND THE TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT RECOMMEND APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTION.

The Transportation Department is requesting approval for nine staff members to travel to the Conference of Minority Transportation Officials (COMTO) 48th Annual National Training Conference and Meeting hosted in Tampa, Florida from July 13 - 16, 2019. The conference provides invaluable opportunities for attendees to learn first-hand from industry experts and exchange professional information with other industry professionals. Conference attendance ranges from 750 to 1,000 persons representing professionals within all modes of transportation.

On March 19, 2019, COMTO’s National Board awarded the 2020 National Training Conference and Meeting to Broward County to be hosted by the local COMTO Fort Lauderdale Chapter. Kesha Davis, Assistant to the Transportation Department Director, is the local COMTO Chapter President. This group of travelers include volunteers for the 2019  conference and members for the 2020 conference planning committee.
