Summary Explanation/Background
THE PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT/FACILITIES MANAGEMENT DIVISION/REAL PROPERTY SECTION AND WATER AND WASTEWATER SERVICES RECOMMEND APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTION.

Currently, Water and Wastewater Services leases 909 square feet at 4000 North State Road 7 in Lauderdale Lakes for its bill payment center. This lease will expire on June 9, 2020. The bill payment center requires additional space to accommodate all of the services it provides.

Staff has identified two possible new locations: (i) approximately 3,120 square feet at the Westgate Plaza in Plantation, and (ii) approximately 2,181 square feet yet to be built as an outparcel at the Lauderhill Mall in Lauderhill. Although, either of these larger locations will provide the additional space needed for the bill payment center, the Lauderhill Mall has been identified as a more suitable place. Staff is in the process of negotiating with the owners of the Lauderhill Mall. If the parties agree to the terms of the lease, Lauderhill Mall would like to include the new payment center as part of its site plan approvals which must be submitted to the City in August. Construction is estimated to be completed by April 2020, in time for the new bill payment center to relocate.
