THE TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT AND TRANSIT DIVISION RECOMMEND APPROVAL
This item supports the Board's Visions and Values to "Cooperatively delivering an efficient and accessible regional intermodal transportation network" and "Consistently delivering responsive, efficient, quality services to the public and internal customers" by providing funding for improving and enhancing the transit system.
As part of the I-75 improvement project, the Broward County Transit Division (BCT) has worked closely with FDOT to initiate the provision of express bus service. The I-75 Express bus service is expected to begin operations in early 2020 and initially will provide rush hour express bus service in the managed lanes from the BB&T Center and Miami Gardens Park & Ride lots to the Miami Intermodal Center. This express bus service is anticipated to remove long distance single occupant vehicle trips from the I-75 corridor, thereby reducing congestion and improving capacity and mobility for all travelers. Through this Public Transportation Grant Agreement (PTGA), FDOT is providing $2,639,000 for the operation and maintenance of the service.
As background, on October 13, 2015 (Item No. 9), the Board approved a Joint Participation Agreement (JPA) to provide $4,090,000 in capital funding for improvements (buses) associated with the implementation of the Interstate 75 (I-75) Express Bus service. This PTGA (PTGA) is intended to provide funding of $2,639,000 for the operations and maintenance of the I-75 Express bus system. No County Match is required.
The PTGA has been reviewed and approved as to form by the County Attorney’s Office. County approval of the Resolution and execution of the PTGA is required prior to FDOT executing said agreement.
