Summary Explanation/Background
This agenda supports the Board's goal of increased economic strength and impact of revenue-generating County enterprises balancing economic, environmental, and community needs.

As consideration of a temporary closure of the Broward County Convention Center during construction continues, the Greater Fort Lauderdale CVB was forced to make a decision regarding groups currently scheduled to be at the Convention Center in 2020 and 2021. Because of time needed to properly plan these events, the closing window of availability at alternate locations for programs of this size, and the increased financial burden that would come with later notification, the CVB felt it in the best interest of the clients and the county to make a decision to begin relocating groups that might be affected. It is imperative for the CVB to give their clients as much notification as possible and address the costs associated with these relocations to maintain the credibility, relationships and reputation necessary to ensure the return of these groups, as well as attract new business post-renovation.

These funds will allow for cancellation payments to hotels located in Broward County that incurred cancellation fees from those clients contracted with hotels in conjunction with those events committed to the Broward County Convention Center during the period of renovation.

These funds will additionally be used to fulfill the concession and incentive commitments Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention and Visitors Bureau originally promised to the groups in securing the business and for reimbursing reasonable costs incurred by client associated with finding an alternate venue.
