Summary Explanation/Background
THE FINANCE AND ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES DEPARTMENT AND THE RISK MANAGEMENT DIVISION RECOMMEND APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTION.

On July 22, 2018, the Claimant, a Utilities Mechanic, sustained injuries during the course and scope of employment with Broward County Water & Wastewater Services Division. The Claimant alleged injuries to the head and brain caused by a rollover motor vehicle accident.

Through negotiations with the Claimant, a settlement was reached in the total amount of $65,000. This amount is broken down as follows: (1) The Claimant will receive $47,375, plus $500 for a General Release and Resignation Agreement; and (2) the Claimant’s attorney will receive $16,125 for fees and $1,000 for costs. The settlement includes all future indemnity and medical benefits.

Please note the Concurrence Memorandum was signed by the Office of the County Attorney on April 11, 2019, which is within the 90-day period between settlement and concurrence, as requested by the Board.
