Requested Action
MOTION TO ACCEPT Broward County Affordable Housing Needs Assessment, 2018, as prepared by The Metropolitan Center, Florida International University, 2018, as transmitted by the Broward Housing Council.

ACTION: (T-3:34 PM)  Approved.  The Board asked the County Attorney's Office to take another look at Affordable Housing.  In addition, the Board asked Ralph Stone to forward a report to the Board.  (Refer to minutes for full discussion.)  (See Yellow-Sheeted Additional Material, dated May 7, 2019, submitted at the request of Vice-Mayor Holness, as well as Environmental Protection and Growth Management Department.

VOTE:  8-0.  Vice-Mayor Holness voted in the affirmative telephonically.  Commissioner Sharief was not present.
Why Action is Necessary
The Broward County Affordable Housing Needs Assessment, 2018,  is utilized by the Broward Housing Council, Board of County Commissioners, respective staffs and the businesses and residents of Broward County to assess and understand affordable housing conditions in Broward County. 
What Action Accomplishes
This action allows the Board to accept the Broward County Affordable Housing Needs Assessment, 2018, as transmitted by the Broward Housing Council,  for  the purpose of providing current data regarding  affordable housing conditions in Broward County.

Summary Explanation/Background
THE ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AND GROWTH MANAGEMENT DEPARTMENT AND THE PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT MANAGEMENT DIVISION APPROVE THIS ACTION.

This items supports the Board's Value of "offering sustainable, compatible, innovative housing options for all income levels, including integrated supportive housing and rapid rehousing" and its corresponding goal to "strengthen stakeholder partnerships to increase the availability of affordable housing of all types (e.g.., rental, purchase, supportive, etc.) countywide, in every community.

The Broward Housing Council has contracted with the Florida International University (FIU) Metropolitan Center for the preparation and update of the Broward County affordable housing needs and conditions.  The study provides current data on Housing Supply, Housing Demand, Future Housing Demand and provides Municipal and Unincorporated area demographic profiles and housing
supply and demand for each area by very low, low and moderate income populations.

The Housing Council updates this study approximately every four years and has accepted the study to transmit to the Board.
