The 2019 March of Dimes - March for Babies 5k Walk will take place at Nova Southeastern University in Davie, Florida. District 8 wishes to promote the March of Dimes Walk on BC-Net and use District 8 staff to post the event on social media outlets in order to encourage all County employees and members of the community to participate in the event and raise funds for the March of Dimes.
Under the County’s Advantage Marketing Program, Broward County may advertise opportunities for volunteer participation to its employees without seeking Board approval. However, Section 1-19(c)(5) of the Code of Ethics for Elected Officials provides that Commissioners may not use County resources or staff to solicit charitable contributions absent approval by the Board. Because District 8 seeks to use the above-referenced staff and resources to promote the March of Dimes 5k Walk and encourage participation from employees and members of the community, this item is presented for the Board’s consideration.
