Broward County Commission Regular Meeting

MOTION TO ADOPT Resolution No. 2019-115 of the Board of County Commissioners of Broward County, Florida, pertaining to the Paratransit Fare Structure; amending Section 41.04 of the Broward County Administrative Code ("Administrative Code") to increase the maximum amount per trip on the subsidized payment card; and providing for severability, inclusion in the Administrative Code, effective April 1, 2019.

VOTE: 8-0.  Commissioner Sharief was not present.

Section 3.04 of the Broward County Charter requires a public hearing to be held concerning the adoption of proposed amendments to the Administrative Code.

Holds Public Hearing to allow public comment and approve changes to the Administrative Code 41.04, Paratransit Fare Structure, to increase the County's subsidized payment for the Rider's Choice Pilot Program from $15 to $18 per trip.

THE TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT/TRANSIT DIVISION RECOMMEND APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTION.

This item supports the Board's values of "Cooperatively delivering an efficient and accessible regional intermodal transportation network" and "Consistently delivering responsive, efficient, quality services to the public and internal customers."

At its January 29, 2019 meeting, the Board approved a motion to continue the Paratransit Riders Choice Pilot Program for an additional two-year period with recommended improvements. The Program adds an additional transportation choice for ADA eligible customers to complement their existing Paratransit services by providing a subsidy to utilize a taxi company or licensed transportation network provider of their choosing to arrange their trip.

In order to increase the per trip subsidy as recommended from $15 to $18 per trip, it will be necessary to amend the Broward County Administrative Code, Section 41.04 Paratransit Fare Structure. Any amendments to the Administrative code require a Public Hearing. The proposed Resolution amends Section 41.04 to increase the Paratransit subsidized transportation card to $18 per trip (Exhibit 1).
