On January 14, 1997, the Broward County Board of Commissioners ("Board") enacted Ordinance No. 97-03, authorizing participation by Broward County in the Neighborhood Preservation and Enhancement Program. The Board subsequently enacted ordinances creating the Washington Park, Roosevelt Gardens, and Boulevard Gardens Neighborhood Preservation and Enhancement Districts ("Districts") and adopted Neighborhood Enhancement Plans for each District. Several ordinances were subsequently enacted amending the Neighborhood Enhancement Plans.
On September 26, 2012, the Board enacted Ordinance No. 2012-25, creating the "Central County Community Overlay District" within the Broward County Zoning Code. The Central County Community Overlay District incorporates the requirements of the Neighborhood Enhancement Plans, thereby making retention of the Neighborhood Enhancement Plans redundant. This proposed Ordinance repeals the ordinances authorizing creation of the Districts, creating the Districts, and adopting and amending the Neighborhood Enhancement Plans.
The Environmental Protection and Growth Management Department, as the local planning agency for the elements of the Broward County Comprehensive Plan for the unincorporated area, held its public hearing on February 22, 2019, and made a recommended finding that the proposed Ordinance is generally consistent with the adopted Broward County Comprehensive Plan. |
