Broward County Commission Regular Meeting

MOTION TO ADOPT Resolution No. 2019-094 of the Board of County Commissioners of Broward County, Florida, directing the County Administrator to publish a Notice of Public Hearing to be held on Thursday, March 28, 2019 at 10:00 a.m., in Room 422, Broward County Governmental Center, to receive public input and adoption of a proposed Resolution amending Chapter 41 of the Administrative Code, the title of which is as follows:

A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF BROWARD COUNTY, FLORIDA, PERTAINING TO THE PARATRANSIT FARE STRUCTURE; AMENDING SECTION 41.04 OF THE BROWARD COUNTY ADMINISTRATIVE CODE ("ADMINISTRATIVE CODE") TO INCREASE THE MAXIMUM AMOUNT PER TRIP ON THE SUBSIDIZED PAYMENT CARD; AND PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY, INCLUSION IN THE ADMINISTRATIVE CODE, AND AN EFFECTIVE DATE.

ACTION:  (T-10:33 AM)  Approved.

VOTE:  8-0.  Commissioner Geller was not present.

Section 3.04 of the Broward County Charter requires a public hearing to be held concerning the adoption of proposed amendments to the Administrative Code.

Sets Public Hearing to allow public comment on proposed changes to the Administrative Code 41.04, Paratransit Fare Structure,  to increase the County's subsidized payment for the Rider's Choice Pilot Program from $15 to $18 per trip.

THE TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT/TRANSIT DIVISION RECOMMEND APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTION.

This item supports the Board's values of "Cooperatively delivering an efficient and accessible regional intermodal transportation network" and "Consistently delivering responsive, efficient, quality services to the public and internal customers."

At its January 29, 2019 meeting, the Board approved a motion to continue the Paratransit Riders Choice Pilot Program for an additional two-year period with recommended improvements. The Program adds an additional transportation choice for ADA eligible customers to complement their existing Paratransit services by providing a subsidy to utilize a taxi company or licensed transportation network provider of their choosing to arrange their trip.

In order to increase the per trip subsidy as recommended, it will be necessary to amend the Broward County Administrative Code, Section 41.04 Paratransit Fare Structure. Exhibit 2 is the proposed Resolution to amend Section 41.04  to increase the Paratransit subsidized transportation card from a not-to-exceed County payment of $15 to $18 per trip. Any amendments to the Administrative code require a Public Hearing, this item schedules the Public Hearing.
