Requested Action
MOTION TO APPROVE Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between Broward County and the Florida Division of Emergency Management to accept Generac GP5500 watt generators for storage, maintenance, and official government use, effective upon execution by the duly authorized representative of the Parties to the MOA; authorize the Mayor and Clerk to execute same; and authorize the County Administrator to execute any amendments to the approved contract, subject to review of and approval by the Office of the County Attorney, as to legal sufficiency, and to take the necessary administrative actions to implement the utilization of the generators.

ACTION:  (T-11:20 AM)  Approved.

VOTE:  9-0.

Summary Explanation/Background
EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT DIVISION RECOMMEND APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTION.

During the response to Hurricane Michael, the State of Florida Emergency Response Team purchased Generac GP5500 watt generators to run traffic signals throughout impacted areas. In an effort to maximize their utilization, the State is collaborating with Florida counties to position and maintain these critical assets throughout the State.

The State of Florida Division of Emergency Management will provide an estimated fifty (50) Generac GP5500 watt generators, to be deployed during disaster events impacting the South Florida Region.  The maintenance and distribution of the equipment will be made by local jurisdictions as stipulated in the Memorandum of Agreement – Regarding State-Owned Generators, as reflected in Exhibit 1.

Fiscal Impact
Fiscal Impact/Cost Summary:
The equipment provided by the Florida Division of Emergency Management are at no cost, provided participating agencies utilize the generator(s) for necessary official government purposes. As stipulated in the MOA, jurisdictions accepting the generators are responsible for ongoing maintenance costs in order to keep the equipment serviceable and available for use during emergencies.
