PARKS AND RECREATION DIVISION RECOMMENDS APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTIONS.
The requested action to approve additional funding for the Hollywood North Beach Park Mooring Fields, Phase I, supports the Board’s Value of cultivating community culture, arts, recreation and life-long learning, and the associated Goal to market and deliver world-class recreational opportunities. Upon completion of both phases of the project, transient boaters will have a place to temporarily moor their vessels and visit Hollywood North Beach Park. This new amenity, which will be located in two coves north and south of Sheridan Street between State Road A1A and the Intracoastal Waterway, will provide recreational opportunities for boaters to enjoy.
Phase I of this project provides for the design, engineering and processing of the necessary permits for the installation of recreational vessel mooring fields, a floating dinghy dock and the expansion of an existing restroom to provide shower facilities for the transient boaters tying up in the mooring field. During the design and engineering process, it was determined that a new type of mooring system is preferred. Additional funding of $25,000 is needed to perform necessary survey work and test boring for this new system, bringing the total expected cost for Phase I from the original amount of $150,000 to $175,000.
On December 6, 2018, the Marine Advisory Committee approved the recommendation to spend the additional $25,000 in BBIP funds for this project. Upon completion of Phase I, the County will apply for Phase II BBIP and Florida Inland Navigation District funding for construction costs.
