Requested Action
MOTION TO ADOPT Resolution No. 2019-020 of the Board of County Commissioners of Broward County, Florida, accepting a donation of materials, valued at approximately $12,000, from Friends of Deerfield Island Park, Inc., for the use and benefit of the Parks and Recreation Division at Deerfield Island Park for an educational fossil dig; authorizing the County Administrator to take all administrative and budgetary actions to implement acceptance; and providing for severability and an effective date. (Commission District 4)

Section 18.63 of the Broward County Administrative Code requires any donation valued at $10,000 or more to be accepted by Board Resolution.

Summary Explanation/Background
PARKS AND RECREATION DIVISION RECOMMENDS APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTION.

This item supports the Broward County Board of County Commissioners' value of cultivating community culture, arts, recreation and life-long learning, and the associated goal to deliver world-class recreational opportunities in coordination with community partners. The creation of an educational fossil dig area will enhance the Park’s ability to deliver world-class recreational and educational opportunities to visitors by providing a new educational and recreational amenity. The new amenity will encourage guided exploration and interactive learning about this unique location.

The adoption of the Resolution (Exhibit 1) authorizes Broward County to accept this donation as requested by the donating organization (Exhibit 2).
