TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT AND TRANSIT DIVISION RECOMMEND APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTION.
This item supports the Boards Value of "Cooperatively delivering an efficient and accessible regional intermodal transportation network."
As background, the Transit Division (BCT) staff coordinated with FDOT in FY 2013 to provide connectivity between passengers traveling on BCT Route 14 (Powerline Road) to access the Cypress Creek TriRail station along NW 59 Court in Fort Lauderdale. Due to a median blocking access to the station platform on NW 59th Court, this connectivity for passengers traveling southbound on the Route 14 was not possible. Passengers wanting to get to the TriRail station would need to exit on the west side of Powerline road and cross the roadway and walk about a block and a half to the TriRail station. To alleviate this, Broward County Transit (BCT) coordinated with FDOT to provide funding for a project to construct three traffic signal mast arms, a bus left turn lane, and pedestrian crosswalk at SR 845/Powerline Road and NW 59th Court as part of it's roadway project. FDOT and the County are funding the project which is estimated at a total cost of $751,464. Once the construction of the project is completed, FDOT will then turn the project over to Broward County who will maintain and operate the constructed traffic signal system.
In order to construct the project, FDOT requires a Locally Funded Agreement which details each party’s financial commitments ($500,000 from the County and $251,464 FDOT).
The Locally Funded Agreement has been reviewed and approved as to form by the Office of the County Attorney.
