Summary Explanation/Background
The County has been in discussions with the Florida Department of Transportation and the City of Sunrise over the last several years to address traffic flow, and scheduled improvements to the Sawgrass Expressway. Construction of an interchange will improve traffic flow around the Sawgrass Mills Mall, and local area traffic.

The Turnpike Enterprise recently notified the County that the City had previously been notified of a deadline of December 31, 2018 for the City and the County to provide a commitment to fund improvements to the Pat Salerno/Sawgrass Expressway interchange. The estimated cost for a full interchange is $56 million. The estimated cost for a northbound ramp is $26 million. Half of the funding will be provided by the Turnpike Enterprise and the other half would be funded by the local community.

It is anticipated that an item will be brought back to the Board in January for consideration.
