MOTION TO ADOPT budget Resolution No. 2018-505 within the Convention and Visitor’s Bureau (CVB) fund to appropriate funds in the amount of $121,034 for the purpose of utilizing funds provided by the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino and the La Cita de las Americas tradeshow for specific purposes, including promoting Broward County as a tourist destination and reimbursing the CVB fund for transporting clients to the La Cita de las Americas tradeshow.

ACTION:  (T-10:48 AM)  Approved.

VOTE:  9-0.

Appropriating revenues and expenditures that increase the bottom line of a fund requires approval by the Board of County Commissioners.

Appropriates funds within the Convention and Visitor’s Bureau fund.

None.

The $100,000 contributed by Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino is to be used by the CVB to market the Broward County destination to potential tourism customers.

The $21,034 from La Cita de las Americas is part of a sponsorship arranged between Visit Florida and La Cita de las Americas.  La Cita de las Americas is a tradeshow of “Latin America’s key travel decision makers”. This event creates a great opportunity for the CVB to interact with and sell to tour and travel decision makers across Latin America.

The cooperative arrangement between Visit Florida and La Cita de las Americas stipulated that Visit Florida would sponsor La Cita de las Americas. In return, La Cita de las Americas would host the event in Fort Lauderdale on September 4-6, 2018 and would also reimburse the CVB for its expense in transporting key potential travel clients to Fort Lauderdale over those dates.  The $21,034 will be used to reimburse the CVB the expense of purchasing the travel tickets for these key clients.
