Summary Explanation/Background
THE ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AND GROWTH MANAGEMENT DEPARTMENT AND THE PLANNING AND  DEVELOPMENT MANAGEMENT DIVISION RECOMMEND APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTION.

The State of Florida has awarded Broward County a grant of $50,000 to survey historic sites within the Broward Municipal Services District ("BMSD"), and the City of West Park. The grant will be used to support the Board's Historic Preservation Program, by identifying new historic sites and recoding each area's developmental history.

In 2014, the Board authorized the Historic Preservation Board to initiate, review, and conduct periodic updates to historic site surveys (Ordinance 2014-32). In 2016, Broward County was recognized by the State of Florida and Federal Government as a Certified Local Government ("CLG"). This grant is being provided to Broward County, by the State of Florida's Division of Historical Resources, as an eligible CLG. The grant will be used to support historic site surveys in the Central County and Broadview Park BMSD neighborhoods, and in the City of West Park, to provide information on areas not previously surveyed for historical information. This grant does not require a County match. The agreement language has been reviewed by Grants Administration and approved as to form by the Office of the County Attorney.
