MOTION TO ADOPT Resolution supporting the City of Tamarac's Complete Streets and Other Local Initiatives Program grant application to the Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization for bicycle and pedestrian safety improvements along West Prospect Road from NW 31st Avenue to Commercial Boulevard, at no cost to the County. (Commission District 9)

Provides a Resolution supporting the grant application to the Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization and recognizing the Florida Department of Transportation as the agency responsible for the project's design, construction and construction administration.

Summary Explanation/Background
PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT/HIGHWAY CONSTRUCTION AND ENGINEERING DIVISION RECOMMENDS APPROVAL.

This item supports the Board of County Commissioners' Value of "cooperatively delivering an efficient and accessible regional intermodal transportation network" with the Goal of supporting "the development, design and construction of sustainable, multi-modal transportation facilities throughout the County, to meet the demands of residents, travelers, and businesses."

A portion of West Prospect Road from west of NW 28th Avenue to Commercial Boulevard is a two-lane County road located in the City of Tamarac. The City of Tamarac intends to submit a grant application to fund bicycle and pedestrian safety improvements along West Prospect Road from NW 31st Avenue to Commercial Boulevard. The City of Tamarac has collaborated with the City of Fort Lauderdale and Broward County Highway Construction and Engineering Division in the development of the proposed project. The proposed project will not change the number of vehicular travel lanes.

Staff from the County's Complete Streets Team have reviewed the proposed improvements and support the implementation of the project. Approval of this Resolution will formally affirm the County's support for the project and the continued funding of the operation and maintenance of its portion of West Prospect Road. 

The Resolution has been reviewed and approved as to form by the Office of the County Attorney.
