Requested Action
A. MOTION TO ADOPT budget Resolution No. 2018-453 within the Law Enforcement Trust Fund (LETF) for the Broward Sheriff's Office (BSO) in the amount of $116,101 for the purpose of providing matching funds for the Florida Coalition Against Domestic Violence Grant to fund one full time Detective position in the Special Victims Unit of the Criminal Investigation Division for three years.

B. MOTION TO ADOPT budget Resolution No. 2018-454 within the Law Enforcement Trust Fund for the Broward Sheriff's Office in the amount of $1,077,301 for the purpose of supporting the Forfeiture Unit for Fiscal Year 2019.

ACTION:  (T-10:32 AM)  Approved.

Why Action is Necessary
Florida Statutes 932.7055(4) requires that proceeds from the disposition of liens and forfeited property obtained from criminal procedure and corrections be deposited in a special law enforcement trust fund to be used for law enforcement purposes. Recommendation of the Sheriff and Board approval are necessary to appropriate LETF funds.

A. Provides LETF funding in the amount of $116,100.60 as matching funds for the Florida Coalition Against Domestic Violence Grant.

B. Provides LETF funding in the amount of $1,077,301 to support the Forfeiture Unit for Fiscal Year 2019.

Summary Explanation/Background
A. The Broward Sheriff’s Office supports this LETF request for matching funds for the BSO Criminal Investigations Division. BSO receives a grant from the Florida Coalition Against Domestic Violence in the amount of $412,500. BSO will be providing matching funds in the amount of $116,101. The goal of InVEST is to prevent domestic violence homicides by identifying, empowering, and referring victims to utilize the intensive services available through interagency commitment and cooperation. The InVEST team identifies and intervenes in the potentially most lethal domestic violence cases.

B. The Broward Sheriff’s Office supports this LETF request for $1,077,301 to fund the Broward County Forfeiture Unit. Funding for this program is shared by local forfeiture and the Federal Justice Law Enforcement Trust Fund.
