THE PORT EVERGLADES DEPARTMENT RECOMMENDS APPROVAL.
This item supports the Broward County Board of County Commissioners' Value of "[E]nsuring economic opportunities for Broward's diverse population and businesses" and Goal to "[I]ncrease the economic strength and impact of revenue-generating County enterprises balancing economic, environmental, and community needs."
The Port Everglades Department has been identified as eligible for a U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) grant under the Federal Fiscal Year 2018 Port Security Grant Program (PSGP) in an amount of up to $1,301,453 to fund specific priorities to address the prevention of, protection against, response to, and recovery from, incidents or other natural or man-made disasters (to include all hazard compatibility) affecting the Port Everglades Area. The grant complements previous PSGP awards that the Port Everglades Department has used to update and improve the overall quality of layered security infrastructure. This grant will provide funding for lighting improvements along the Port's southern perimeter, the reconstruction of an automated port exit, and the relocation of the Port's security data center to improve resiliency.
Funding for critical projects approved by the U.S. Coast Guard and FEMA require a 25% cost share ($433,818) by grant recipients. Total estimated project cost for the three approved security projects, including the County matching funds, totals $1,735,271.
The Fiscal Year 2018 PSGP funding allocations were announced by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security on August 24, 2018, and the Official Grant Award letter was received on September 14, 2018 (see Exhibit 2). |
