THE TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT/TRANSIT DIVISION RECOMMEND APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTION.
This item supports the Board's Value of “[C]ooperatively delivering an efficient and accessible regional intermodal transportation network" with the Goal of supporting the "development, design and construction of sustainable, multi-modal transportation facilities throughout the County, to meet the demands of residents, travelers, and businesses.”
In 2015, Broward County Transit completed the South U.S.1 Transit Improvement Study to develop short- and medium-term implementable solutions along the U.S.1 corridor from Downtown Fort Lauderdale to south of the Miami-Dade County line. The improvements were focused on improving transit service, mobility, livability and supporting economic development in the corridor. The solutions varied in type and scope, including bus stop improvements (installation of shelters, benches, trash receptacles, etc.), traffic signalization, and complete streets enhancements to make the corridor more transit and pedestrian friendly. The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District 4 has programmed a design project to implement the study's recommendations.
The FDOT design project for the corridor includes the installation of one bus shelter and associated amenities at a northbound bus stop located on US1 at SE 30th Street in unincorporated Broward County, among other transit improvements along the corridor. The shelter and associated amenities will be constructed and paid for by FDOT. Upon completion, ownership of the shelter will be transferred to the County by FDOT, and the County shall assume responsibility for all maintenance and repair of the bus shelter and associated amenities as detailed in the Maintenance Memorandum of Agreement (MMOA).
The MMOA (Exhibit 2) has been reviewed and approved as to form by the County Attorney's Office.
