Summary Explanation/Background
PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT/HIGHWAY CONSTRUCTION AND ENGINEERING DIVISION RECOMMENDS APPROVAL.

This item supports the Board of County Commissioners' Value of "cooperatively delivering an efficient and accessible regional intermodal transportation network" with the Goal of supporting "the development, design and construction of sustainable, multi-modal transportation facilities throughout the County, to meet the demands of residents, travelers, and businesses."

West Cypress Creek Road from Powerline Road to the South Florida Rail Corridor is a six-lane County road located in the City of Fort Lauderdale. Broward County, the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), and the City of Fort Lauderdale have collaborated to develop a project to improve bicycle and pedestrian safety along this road. As part of this cooperative effort, FDOT will be responsible for project design and construction administration, the MPO will provide the funding for construction, and County will continue to own and maintain the road after construction of the proposed improvements. The project will be implemented with no change in the number of travel lanes.

Prior to proceeding with the project, the MPO and FDOT require a resolution showing support from the Board of County Commissioners. Staff from the County's Complete Streets Team have reviewed the proposed improvements and support the implementation of the project. Approval of this Resolution will formally affirm the County's support for the project.

The Resolution has been reviewed and approved as to form by the Office of the County Attorney.
